AYRTON SENNA - THE RACING LEGEND

If we talk about a sport automatically we remember the person who is good at that sport. For cricket we remember Sachin, for Running we remember Usain Bolt and if we talk about Formula 1 we remember the legend Ayrton senna.

If you ask why Ayrton Senna is the legend and best of all, there are many reasons for to say that he is the legend. His mastery of the car's grip, the god given gift to find where is the grip on the track, and his right to win.

When I was small Michael Schumacher was at his peak and still heard stories about Senna, I didn't understand his greatness then, butwhenever i see him on the track and off the track he still surprises me.

Let's talk about top 10 moments of Ayrton's brilliande in Formual1

10.  Ayrton's defensive driving skills are second to none and he demonstrated the very technique in 1993 British grand prix. A great start saw him leap into the second place at turn 1 just ahead of Alian Prost his Greatest rival in th willaims. And even with the professor at the slipstream senna displayed the mastery of both silverstone circuit and the art of driving to hold him off for whole 6 laps in his slower Mclaren.

9.  During the qualifying for 1990 Spanish grand prix a blistering lap at jerez circuit saw senna to pit in a time of 1:18.387. That flying lap, a track record earned senna his 50th pole position in his career. The Brazilian going a full of 1.2 seconds faster than his Mclaren teammate Gerhard Berger.

8.  4 years earlier the first race to be held at jerez saw one of the closest finishes at f1 history. Senna led in his lotus, on his final lap has now very worn tires which are failing and a freshly short nigel mansel was bearing down on him. Senna defenders superbly, but as the hit the final straight the Britain darted outside and the two future champions spared for the line. Senna held on and took the flag first with 14 thousandths of a second.

 7.  During the practice in 1992 Belgium grand prix Eric the co-driver crashed his ar at a high speed blushimo corner at a 180MPH, the french man was unconscious and his engine still running, his foot pressing on the accelerator pumping fuel to the system. Senna stopped his Mclaren and dashed over into his strucken colegue and spotting the danger of instant explosion, switch the engine off, Eric later say that Senna undoubtedly saved his life.

6. A disastrous start at 1988 Japanese Grand Prix saw pole siiter senna left stationary on the grid as the lights went out dropping him all the way to 16th place with the chances of winning his maiden world championship dwindling he went one of the greatest charges in formula1 history. Within 20 laps he is 2nd place, chasing down the championship rival and the teammate Alian Prost, surely after a great pressure and effort senna passed prost and took the lead before going on to take the win and the world championship title. It was truly a remarkable performance.

5.  A wet Donington circuit witnessed the one of the senna's greatest ever single lap. Fourth on the grid for 1993 European grand prix a difficult start saw him to drop a place for young Michael Schumacher. But the Brazilian then displayed all of his wet weather mastery passing Schumacher and Carl Vendlingler through out side touching the curbs, at turn 7 overtaking Damon Hill. Then 2 corners to go he slithered in to Prost and muscled his way into the lead. Truly a LEGEND!!!!!

4. Senna's reputation as the wet weather genius was established in his rookie season in 1984 Monacco Grand Prix. starting in the !3th position at the terential rain senna masteredly manuvered his toulmean into 2nd place overtaking the legends such as Niki Lauda along the way, he chased down and passed the race leader Alian Prost on lap 32. Prost complained the conditions were too dangerous and jacky icxs agreed the race was red flagged and which was led to stopping the race as a result encountered from the last completed lap was awarded victory truly denying. Senna and toleman for the historic maiden win.

3. Senna's win would come though and it was again the weather that allowed him to take the authority. At a rained soaked circuit in 1985 having secured his maiden pole position he pushed his lotus to the limit. Behind him the racers aquapinned and spunoff the track but senna sailed of the circuit. Leading from the start to finish. And beating the second place finish over a minute to get his First of his 41 victories.

2. In his 8th season as the formula 1 driver, now the 31 year old ayrton senna finally won his home race after trying continuously for 7 years in front of his adoring home fans in sau palo. Qualifying on pole and a superb start saw senna lead for some 65 laps of the interlagos circuit. But then with the duck about to be broken his Mclaren's gearbox began to be failed loosing the succession of the gears, until only 6th was available. As Williams Ricardio and the rain clouds closed in senna managed to steer his stricken car home for the win using only one gear. As the samba celebration began the victor physically and emotionally exhausted after his tremoundos efforts was barely able to lift the trophy.

1. Perhaps senna's single greatest moment was this qualifying lap from 1988, senna himself remarked his performance as that day transende his sense of reality saying he was driving the car with kind of instinct and in a different dimension well beyond his consciousness. No onboard footage of the lap exists. But his time of 1 minute 23.998 seconds was second and half quicker than the teammate Prost. .

                                              Truly a Legend
